So, you’ve published some fresh content on your website, and you want to push it to a larger audience. Social bookmarking is an excellent way to do this. Today; I’m going to talk to you about the benefits of social bookmarking and what it can do for your website. So, what are social bookmarking websites? They’re sites like Stumble or Digg or JumpTags, sites where you can submit content extremely quickly and start getting links back to your domain.
There are obviously lots of huge benefits to social bookmarking. The number one would be referral traffic. So you can get traffic back to your domain extremely quickly by submitting your content to the appropriate category.
Number two, indexing. So, if you want your content to get indexed in search engines extremely quickly, then if you submit your site to these social bookmarking places, the content’s going to get crawled quicker. You’re going to get links back quicker. So it’s an extremely useful way to get pages indexed in the search engines extremely quickly.
Another huge benefit would be backlinks. So you can get followed links back to your domain by just simply submitting the content and getting loads of useful links and helping your search engine rankings.
If you’re going after page one domination, then social bookmarks are an excellent way to do this. So you might have your website ranking. You might have your blog post ranking. But these social bookmarking sites can also rank as well. So, if you’re going after a specific term, then social bookmarking is an excellent way to dominate the first page with your own results. Again, if you already have links back to your website (it might be an article), if you bookmark these links, then it gives the links more authority, which is only going to have a knock-on effect on your search engine rankings.
Now, obviously, we all have time constraints, and we can’t always spend hours and hours building links back to our site, but there are quick wins and different ways to do this. For example, some of the social bookmarking sites have a toolbar. So if you install the toolbar, when you have your content ready to submit, you literally click a button and it pings it to the social bookmarking site, and you instantly have a link back to your domain.
There are other ways to do this as well. If you have a WebPress blog, you can install a plug-in which will instantly ping your content to these social bookmarking sites. Again, you’re getting links back straight away without too much admin.
Obviously, there are other ways to do this. You might want to incorporate buttons on your blog and let the users do the social bookmarking for you. So there are different ways to do this.
Anyone in search engine marketing, I would encourage them to do social bookmarking on a daily basis. You get followed links back to your domain, and you get to push your content to a much larger audience.

Nice video Ollie. Social bookmarks certainly do work to give pages a nice short term boost in the rankings, especially if done on a large scale.
They’re also excellent for reaching the audiences on those sites, so the better the content, the better you’ll do.

Nice idea. I’m especially interested in getting pages in the index quick: Which social bookmarking site would you recommend for this?

Thanks Pete, I would recommend Jumptags.com or Digg. In my experience they seem to get pages indexed the quickest.
