Top 5 Paid Social Ads Features

Facebook has plenty of useful tools and features to make your life simpler when it comes to advertising. These 5 features are useful whether you’re creating ads yourself or if you are paying for paid social as a service. Even if you don’t know how to manage Facebook ads, by learning these tips, you’ll have a smoother transaction with your client or paid media manager.

1. Previewing ads before they go live

Not everyone will be happy to create ads and publish them without having some form of approval process. Luckily Facebook provides a preview link for all ads on your account. This can be sent to whoever needs to review the ad, but the good thing about this feature is that if any changes are made, all you have to do is re-click the link and you’ll see the changes.

Instead of print screening the preview image, to access the link feature, all you have to do is click on the dropdown menu on the left-hand side of the preview section (ad level), click on ‘Share a link’. You should see a popup window that will allow you to copy the link. All you have to do is click ‘Copy’. From here you’ll be able to send the link to anyone that has a Facebook account.

The next step is to click on the link to view the specific ad. We recommend not to click on ‘Show Ad’ as this will make the preview ad appear on your newsfeed for 24 hours. This might become confusing as you will be shown that particular ad on your feed which could cause confusion between active and previewed ads.

2. Mock-up Builder

Facebook’s Creative Hub is a great way to visualise what your ad will look like in an ad format. You can find the page here: https://business.facebook.com/ads/adbuilder/home/

Using this ad builder, you’ll be able to create mock-ups, giving you the opportunity to demonstrate any ideas you have bubbling away. What’s also great about the Creative Hub is that if you are satisfied with your mock-up, you will be able to export it to your ad account, so you’ll never have to create the same ad twice. You can add collaborators to work together on projects, and you can edit them depending on the platform and placement making it easier to visualise how your ad will appear.

3. Media Library

Many clients already have folders full of images and videos ready to use on ads, and it can be a long process having to individually locate and upload the creative you need for a particular ad. Facebook’s Media Library is a simple tool for uploading images and videos in bulk. You can also divide them into specific folders which will help with your organisation.

Once you have uploaded your creatives, they will be available for you to use in the ad section of your campaigns, which you can then drill down by using the search bar at this level.

4. Setting Up Rules

Rules are a great way to “watch” your account without actually observing it every second of the day. You can set up rules such as turning off certain ad sets if they spend too much, or if the frequency is too high, and you can also adjust budgets if specific conditions are met. Of course, we don’t recommend setting up rules for you to never watch over your account again, but we do recommend activating rules if you know you won’t be able to manage the accounts for a day or two. With this in mind, setting up rules to help manage certain ads and stats will save you time when you need it most. In order to use this feature, just click on ‘Rules’ above the Facebook dashboard and start creating new rules for your ad account.

5. Editing History

Sometimes having too many admins can spoil the ad. If you have too many people managing the accounts, this can lead to multiple changes on the same ad and not knowing who did what. Luckily, Facebook provides a time-stamped report on changes made to specific ad sets. You can find this by selecting an ad set and clicking on ‘Inspect’. Scroll down until you see ‘Significant Edit History’ which will give you detailed information on what was changed, who changed it, and at what date and time giving you more control and making it easier for you to see if ads need further changes. Keep in mind that you may need to adjust the date to see the information you need.
