(This is the transcript from our new video so it may not read as well as a normal blog post would)
Hi, Ben here, and today I want to talk to you about image optimisation. So we know with Google going mobile-first next year, with their index, that site speed is going to become even more important. One of the most overlooked factors in my experience is image optimisation. Far too many people focus on other factors, yet they still end up loading in a mahoosive image to be delivered on a mobile device.
One of my favourite tools is one called Kraken.io. Really simple. Install it, set a few parameters for the size of image that you need. You upload your image as big as you want. It gets cracked down into different sizes depending on the parameters that you’ve set. Depending on what device somebody comes to your site on, they’ll get delivered the right image for that device. So if you’re not already optimising your images and serving them to your users in the smallest size possible, then you really, really need to take a look at it. You will see your load speeds come down, and you can even see ranking improvement.
