Get London Underground Directions with Google Maps

28th Jul 2011 News, Industry News 1 minute to read

It’s finally here! You can now get a range of London transport directions through Google Maps.  This simple function will help millions of commuters get from A to B with an accurate list of instructions. The public transport directions will display information for all Underground, bus, tram and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) lines.

London is not always best known for its easy transport system, but this new function will help the public access quick up-to-date directions. For example, let’s say you are in Piccadilly Circus and you want to visit Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. A simple direction search will display all the transport connections available.

In Google Maps simply click ‘Get Directions’ on the left hand panel and you will see a train icon to get public transport directions. You then enter your current location next to A, and your destination next to B. The details can be anything from street addresses, names, popular places, businesses or restaurants.  Once you’re done click ‘Get Directions’ and the suggested route will appear.

The directions are available on both Google Maps and Google Maps for mobile so you can easily access the trip planner if you’re out and about. If you use the function through your mobile, Maps can find your current location to determine your best trip. Simply search for your destination location, select it on the screen and hit the directions option.

Android powered devices also offer public transport directions through Transit Navigation in Google Maps. This feature also provides alerts of when to get off a train or bus at your given destination. The Transit Navigation feature is available where public transport directions are accessible.

TfL are one of the first companies in Europe to make its information available to the public. This new function is set to make planning trips more convenient for both commuters and tourists.

The Koozai team is very much looking forward to using this feature to commute to our new London office in Covent Garden.
