Sharpie on Pinterest – Kicks


About the piece

Sharpie, the US pen manufacturer, has used visual content and social media perfectly to appeal to a younger target audience. A range of Pinterest boards called ‘Kicks’ show cool and inventive ways to transform shoes using Sharpie markers.

The pins are bright, colourful and fun, reflecting the Sharpie brand and, even better, all of this content is user-generated. The manufacturer cleverly incorporated content from its customers to encourage further social sharing whilst increasing its brand exposure. This meant that Sharpie could not only quickly populate its Pinterest account with content but could also have content continuously being made by other customers who have amazing doodle creations. What better way to appeal to teens and keep the brand current and up to date. This board alone has 9,000 followers to date.
