Websites that want to draw in extra advertising revenue should be looking to carefully select where they are positioning commercials on their pages.

Websites 'Should Place Ads Above the Fold' This is the advice of Katrina Kurnit, a member of Google's Inside AdSense team, who said the beginning of a new year represents the perfect opportunity for online businesses to make some resolutions.

Among these goals should be altering where adverts are placed if necessary.

"Place ads above the fold and maximise the coverage with three standard AdSense for content ad units, three link units and two AdSense for search boxes on each page of your site," she advised.

She also recommended that online companies follow Google AdSense on Twitter to get updates on the latest features.

Last month, the search engine made AdSense available to users of Google Apps for the first time, meaning the service is open to more than 30 million users around the world.
