Online businesses have been advised to optimise their websites so they can make the most of placement targeting opportunities.
According to Charise Wong, a representative of Google's Inside AdSense team, the holiday season is the ideal opportunity to conduct this work as online shoppers look for gifts.
She said companies should optimise their ad units so they can display both text and video commercials, as well as making sections of the website open to advertisers running pay per click campaigns.
"These easy-to-implement changes will make your website and channels more marketable to advertisers, which in turn will increase your overall earning potential," Ms Wong stated.
Earlier this month, a Santander survey forecast that British consumers will spend around £6.4 billion on Christmas presents this year.
It predicted around 70 per cent of shoppers will make at least one purchase over the internet in the run up to December 25th.
