The importance of investing in SEO strategies will be shown by the online sales figures for the Christmas period.
This is the view of Evan LaPointe, a commentator for the Search Engine Land website, who told businesses that are not yet employing SEO services they face being left behind by their competitors.
He advised IT departments to use the festive shopping season as an opportunity to highlight how successful SEO campaigns can be to their management teams.
"Show them the search volume they had no exposure to, but have a perfect product or service offering to satisfy. Show them the lift your competitors saw in traffic and sales," Mr LaPointe said.
Websites are currently gearing up for Mega Monday, which is predicted to be the biggest online shopping day of 2010 and falls on December 6th this year.
According to internet retail association IMRG, more than £500 million is likely to be spent by British consumers on December 5th and 6th as shoppers look for Christmas presents for their loved ones.

I love the random photo stock photos on posts like these
This guy looks pretty pleased with himself – I’m sure he is excited about the upcoming Mega Monday. He will be probably spending his money on QVC, as he looks like he could be a presenter on there!
