British businesses are gearing up for Cyber Monday, traditionally the busiest online shopping day before Christmas.
It is set to fall on December 6th this year, with sales promotions for the event beginning on November 29th.
According to a survey conducted by YouGov, the week will see around 45 per cent of British adults making online purchases.
Dominic Monkhouse, UK managing director at Peer 1 Hosting, said online businesses should be prepared for a record breaking day of internet retailing on Cyber Monday.
"Sites need to be ready and cope with big spikes in activity – [as] slow page loading times or site crashes mean lost customers," he added.
In a recent Search Engine Land article, commentator Brian Klais suggested companies using pay per click services should be looking to allocate more of their marketing towards mobile content in the run-up to Christmas thanks to the ever-growing popularity of smartphone devices among consumers.
