It has been suggested that authority is one of the most misunderstood and underestimated factors in trying to obtain search success.
Writing for Search Engine Watch, Peter van der Graaf indicated that one of the best ways for companies and SEO services to achieve this clout is by taking time to make sure websites are "behaving themselves" for a reasonable period, while linking to pages that do have this aura and vice versa.
In addition, the expert stressed that authority needs to be domain-wide with new content needing to be well connected to established offerings.
However, there is a way around the time aspect that Mr van der Graff stated and that is for upstart internet pages to link to any part of an authority domain and bask in its reflected glory among browsers.
Another aspect that may concern some organisations is the changes made to Google’s algorithm recently and the possibility that search rankings might suffer as a result, Search Engine Land reported.
