Firms may be wise to consider mobile marketing, as sales of smartphones continue to rise.

Smartphone Sales 'Grew 72% in 2010' According to Gartner, there was a 72.1 per cent rise in the devices in 2010, with the items accounting for 19 per cent of all mobile communications equipment sales.

This may encourage some companies to adapt their SEO services and ensure they are making the most of this new customer base.

Research vice-president Carolina Milanese said: "Strong smartphone sales in the fourth quarter of 2010 pushed Apple and Research In Motion up in our 2010 worldwide ranking of mobile device manufacturers to the number five and number four positions respectively."

The latter company produces BlackBerry devices, which are often seen as keen rivals to Apple's iPhones.

According to a survey from the Association of National Advertisers and the Mobile Marketing Association, 75 per cent of client-side marketers plan to increase spending on publicising themselves via this medium.
