Online retailers are set to enjoy a "bumper" Christmas this year, which may interest firms considering investing in search engine optimisation (SEO).

'Bumper' Christmas expected for online retailers A spokesperson for eBay highlighted the results of its recent online business index, which indicated that 51 per cent of companies online are ordering more stock in preparation for the festive season.

She claimed that they are doing this as they expect to see higher sales, since more and more people are doing their Christmas shopping on the web.

The representative continued: "People shop online because they can access a far wider selection of goods more conveniently than on the high street."

In her view, in order to increase sales, online retailers should work on offering a wide selection of products, value for money and develop a relationship of trust with their consumer base.

The company’s online business index also showed that 29 per cent of firms on the internet will be ordering at least 15 per cent more than they did a year ago.
