Online companies should be looking to apply SEO techniques to any images on their website, it has been advised.
Writing on the Online Journalism blog, commentator Paul Bradshaw stated that he had spotted some interesting findings in Ofcom's latest Communications Market report.
As well as search advertising continuing to gain market share, the popularity of image searches was noted.
Mr Bradshaw told users of SEO services: "Google Image Search becomes a significant search engine on its own, above all other general search engines (Bing, Yahoo, MSN) apart from Google's main search portal."
He stated that this "emphasises the importance of SEO for images".
Earlier this month, Search Engine Watch commentator Simon Heseltine suggested the users of SEO services should be prepared to try out new techniques to get their website higher in search engine results pages.
He said it is important to make changes as search engines alter their algorithms on a very regular basis so what works one day may not be as effective the next.
