Many people use search engines to keep up to date with news of what is going on around them, it has been revealed.

Search Engines 'Important Tool' For Finding News According to Bing, 60 per cent of its customers use the search engine to get all the facts about the latest goings-on and it is their "most important" tool for doing so.

To make the experience even better for those using SEO services, the search engine from Microsoft has revealed it is improving relevance and the freshness of content, as well as the speed with which news articles are indexed.

Similarly, changes have been made to the homepage, which now includes tabs with details about top stories and local weather predictions.

People who use Bing to search local news may also benefit from an improved experience, as they can set their locations and read daily headlines in their area of the world.

It is not only its news service Bing is working to improve, as the firm revealed on its Community blog last week that category, brand and price features can now be expanded by people using its shopping features to help them make more informed decisions.
