Companies with Twitter accounts have been advised to keep their followers interested in their account by retweeting interesting information they come across.
According to a blog post by Matt Owen, social media producer at Econsultancy, users of SEO services first need to find relevant people and businesses to follow themselves.
As well as finding industry leaders on Twitter, companies were advised to carry out relevant open keyword searches, for all-encompassing industry terms, along with closed searches for specific products or services.
“It’s always worth retweeting an interesting news story you think would interest your customers,” he said.
“Remember that every conversation has value and the possibility of lead generation, so be proactive and friendly.”
Earlier this month, Biz Stone, one of the co-founders of Twitter, revealed that the site is now handling around 800 million search queries on a daily basis.
This equates to 24 billion searches per month, up 33 per cent on the 19 billion recorded during April 2010.
