Online companies looking for a larger presence on the web should be looking to make the most of their link building operations.

Optimisation Work 'Can Improve Link Building' Search Engine Watch commentator Peter van der Graaf stated that one good strategy is to try and get links updated on a regular basis from partners.

He stated that this is especially important on time-sensitive links such as one archived in a news article and companies should point out to the other firm which has provided the link of the potential benefits of making a change.

"If the link is on their site because your site provides additional information on a topic they write about, this is the perfect candidate for optimisation," Mr van der Graaf explained.

Earlier this month, his fellow Search Engine Watch columnist Kristi Hines said companies with link building campaigns need to use their discretion about what they allow on their own pages as they do not want bad external content to negatively impact on their own reputation.
