The week of online shopping leading up to Mega Monday is expected to see 45 per cent of British adults with access to the internet making purchases.
Mega Monday falls on December 6th this year and is expected to be the busiest day of 2010 for online retailers, according to e-retail organisation IMRG.
The body said web-based sales have been steadily increasing this week as consumers finalise what gifts they are buying for their loved ones this Christmas.
David Smith, managing director at IMRG, said: "2010 looks set to be another bumper year for online [buys].
"We estimate that £6.4 billion will be spent in December alone, with total online sales for November and December set to reach £12.4 billion."
According to the IMRG Capgemini sales index report published last month, pre-Christmas online sales have already been positive this year, with £5.2 billion being spent by consumers during October.
This was 23 per cent higher than the figure recorded in the same month of 2009.
