Companies based north of the border may want to invest in their websites and search marketing strategies following the results of a recent survey.
According to research carried out by broadband provider BT, 85 per cent of people in the country love online shopping and are willing to spend plenty when making purchases on the internet.
Of those surveyed, 26 per cent said they would be willing to spend more than £500 on a product from the web.
Brendan Dick, BT Scotland director, said: "This survey reinforces just how important the internet is to people in Scotland."
The telecommunications firm is currently encouraging people to vote in its Race to Infinity scheme, which will provide super-fast fibre broadband to five communities in the UK.
According to Richard Dodd, head of media and campaigns at the British Retail Consortium, the online shopping marketplace is growing rapidly, particularly with regards to sales of products such as DVDs and books.
