Online companies could look to optimise their websites for mobile phones as the advertising market for these devices grows in the next few years.
According to a new study from analyst Berg Insight, the global mobile marketing and advertising sector is set to grow at an annual rate of 41 per cent between now and 2015.
By that year, mobile marketing will make up an estimated 15.7 per cent of the total digital advertising industry.
Rickard Andersson, telecoms analyst for Berg Insight, explained the advertising channel offers plenty of potential to marketers and online companies.
"Handsets are extremely personal devices which people tend to always have within reach and most often switched on. This enables marketing opportunities which other channels lack," he said.
Earlier this month, research carried out by the Mobile Marketing Association found 67 per cent of consumers are intending to use their phones to assist them with some aspect of their Christmas shopping this year.
