Online businesses may want to pay more attention to optimising their websites for mobiles after it was revealed more people are using their smartphones to research and make purchases.

Mobile Browsing 'A Key Component in Driving Sales' According to a study carried out by Adfonic, mobile clicks during December peaked on Christmas Day and Boxing Day after many people received such devices as presents and used them to search for online bargains.

Victor Malachard, chief executive officer of Adfonic, said savvy shoppers are using their mobiles to research goods and find the best prices on the market.

"As the wealth of information constantly available to consumers via their smartphone devices grows, mobile is proving to be a key component in driving commerce," he stated.

His comments follow a recent prediction from the Mobile Marketing Association which stated conventional websites are due to be visited in greater numbers by smartphone users over the course of 2011 as the handsets become more widely used.
