Lower Quality Links ‘Should Be Cleaned Out’

Websites should be looking to rid themselves of any low-quality links they may have accumulated over time.

Lower Quality Links 'Should Be Cleaned Out' This is the suggestion of Search Engine Land contributor Julie Joyce, who stated that analysing existing backlink profiles and getting rid of unwanted sites can be a challenging aspect of running effective link building campaigns.

She put this partly down to the difficulty of explaining to webmasters on other sites why a company wants to get rid of their link.

But Ms Joyce said that the effort will ultimately be worthwhile.

"I think cleaning things up can give you an even better idea about how to move forward with better quality links," she stated.

According to a recent article by Econsultancy blogger Kevin Gibbons, effective link building can have a significant effect on a website's ranking in search engine results.

He said that this makes it crucial for businesses to encourage inbound links to their web pages.
