Online companies need to take a proactive approach to link building campaigns.
According to Gareth Owen, a contributor to Search Engine Watch, it is important for websites with SEO strategies to look for quality over quantity when it comes to links.
He stated that the best kind of link building will be focused around "branded, URL links from highly relevant sites".
Mr Owen added that it is important for companies not to build the "wrong kind" of links, as this can hurt the position of a website in search engine rankings.
"SEOs and agencies need to consider … how to actively manage the link profile and ensure that the right links are being built," he stated.
Earlier this month, his fellow Search Engine Watch columnist Kaila Strong explained that link building efforts can be improved by utilising social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook to communicate with potential customers.
