Google News is testing out a new feature that will allow users to see Twitter comments on breaking stories.

Google News Testing Out 'Friends' Feature As the search engine moves to embrace social sites, its 'Friends' feature will show internet users who sign into their Twitter account what stories the people they follow on the social networking site are talking about and linking to.

The system may be useful to users of SEO services which are managing to get their content to appear in Google News, as only articles that can be accessed via the channel will show up in the Friends column.

"If someone you follow has shared an article or a link that cannot be found in Google News, then you will not see that update in the Friends section," a Google spokesman confirmed.

Google chief executive officer Eric Schmidt recently told Reuters that the search engine is trying to add "a more social component" to its core products.
