The accuracy of the Google Keyword Tool has been enhanced, an expert has stated.
Writing for Search Engine Watch, columnist Gary-Adam Shannon said Google has updated the application, meaning users of professional SEO services will have to check the impact on their campaigns.
He pointed out that the search term 'golf clubs' returned 165,000 monthly searches prior to the changes, but this is now down to 33,100.
"If you're currently halfway through a search marketing campaign, perhaps now is the time to check your numbers and possibly go back to the drawing board on a few," Mr Shannon suggested.
He pointed out that the increased accuracy should make things better in the long run, but is likely to lead to short-term falls in traffic.
Earlier this week, Boosh News commentator Richard Trott stated that an effective SEO campaign can help a website to rank more highly in search engine results pages.

If the new figure is correct then it is only 20% of their original estimate… crazy! I guess alot of SEO agencies are having to backtrack on their SEO proposals!

Very true Matt, although any SEO Agency using Google Keyword Tool as an exact measure of expected traffic is going to be very disappointed when the final figures arrive!

At first, couple days ago, when i saw the new results i was shocked. All keywords where i was targeting for with my other site where dropped dramaticly. And the search volumes in the Netherlands are already so limited, now its almost eating from a empty pot.
