Online companies interested in how much traffic they are picking up from the mobile internet can make use of a Google Analytics application.

Google Analytics Allows for Creation of Mobile Trend Graphs Alden DeSoto, a member of the Google Analytics team, explained to users of SEO services that by selecting the Advanced Segments option in the My Customisations sections, it is possible to create a new custom segment.

People using this service can select which operating system they want to see results for, including iPhone, Blackberry and Android.

The application will then show precisely how many visits a website has received from mobile phone users.

Last week, Mr DeSoto advised companies to create mobile-friendly websites because of the explosion in people accessing the web via such devices in the past couple of years.

He pointed out that Googlestore.com had fewer than 300 visits from Blackberry, Android and iPhone devices in September 2008 but more than 13,000 hits in July 2010 from users of these phone systems.
