Display advertising is an effective way in which online companies can get potential consumers to become aware of their goods and services.
This is according to Search Engine Watch commentator Adam Goldberg, who told users of pay per click management services that the ultimate aim of optimising online media is running ads that work at a cost that produces the maximum possible level of profit.
He said that display advertising is one of the "best awareness-building vehicles in the marketing world" and its effects on business performance can now be measured accurately.
"With view-through tracking and attribution, optimisation now gets far more granular and exact," Mr Goldberg said.
"It also takes far less time to know what works."
Earlier this month, Miles Johnson, a member of Google's Inside AdWords team, said display ads often leave a lasting impression with internet users to the extent that they will visit a site days or weeks after seeing the marketing.
