Businesses can utilise their customer base to help attract more traffic to their website, it has been stated.

Customers 'Can Help With Link Building' According to Search Engine Land commentator Justilien Gaspard, there are a number of good strategies which can be employed to encourage consumers to participate in link building efforts.

This can include asking for contributions, such as travel tips, or by running interactive contests.

Mr Gaspard said the key to success is making it as simple as possible for consumers to participate.

"Let's say you're asking customers to blog about their favourite product. Make it as easy as possible [by] … adding a copy-and-paste form for the image on each product page," he suggested.

In a recent article by Econsultancy blogger Kevin Gibbons, it was explained that link building has an important role to play in moving a company's website up search engine rankings.

He said that the likes of Google see inbound links as an important measure of relevance when assessing sites.
