Online retailers give consumers a more convenient shopping experience by offering them a wider choice of products without the need to put in much more effort, an industry analyst has asserted.

Consumers 'Offered Added Convenience' By Online Retailers Marketing director at Webtrends Colette Wade suggested that the continued growth in popularity of online sales has allowed the medium to expand.

She noted that the public can now find products from all over the world as a result of search engines and companies’ use of SEO services.

Ms Wade explained: "Product offers, niche items and new collections are announced to consumers using social media, so you really can get the right product with ease."

In addition, people are able to find exactly what they are looking for without having to physically "trawl" through shops in different regions or countries.

Last month, it was reported that the number of visitors to online shops increased by 36 per cent between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in 2009.
