A growing number of businesses want to make the most out of the web's potential and start moving their services on to the internet.

Companies 'Keen to Move Online' This is according to Leslie Hernandez, product marketing manager for the Google small business team, who said this was a frequent response from company owners when the search engine giant asked them about their aims for next year.

She added that those who already have some form of online presence want to make use of more specific tools to aid the growth of their ecommerce activity.

Ms Hernandez went on to explain businesses also want to improve the standard of their websites to help draw in more consumers.

"Ultimately, you said you want to do more online to run your business more efficiently and spend more time concentrating on your customers," she stated.

According to recent research carried out by online engagement platform provider EPiServer, around 40 per cent of British consumers will be using the internet to make half of their Christmas shopping purchases this year.
