An industry expert has suggested that this has been a year of change for online shopping, as a result of new technology that has been released.

'Changes Taking Place' in Online Retail Chris Russell, director of eDigitalResearch, explained that devices such as the iPhone could have a significant impact on consumer shopping habits.

He explained that customers may now go shopping on the high street and be checking prices online while they are in a store.

Mr Russell added: "As applications for these devices become more widespread – barcode readers for example – consumers will become more adept at being better informed."

This may mean that online companies could benefit from taking on SEO services to ensure that consumers can see their product when they are considering whether to make a purchase on the high street.

According to the Interactive Media in Retail Group, Monday December 7th is expected to be the busiest online shopping day of the year, with around £350 million being spent by consumers.
