Companies looking to increase the number of hits on their website should develop relationships with anyone who retweets information they have posted on Twitter.

Businesses 'Should Develop a Relationship With Retweeters' Writing for Search Engine Watch, columnist Frank Watson told users of SEO services that social media sites such as Twitter are potential channels for getting more conversions.

He recommended Topsy as a good tool for tracking who is retweeting a company's information.

"Knowing where you get support is important to help build good relations with those people," said Mr Watson.

"Engage them, retweet some of their stuff and you will find they will keep sending you traffic."

Last month, a comScore report revealed that Twitter usage grew by 106 per cent in Europe in the 12 months up to and including June 2010.

Almost 93 million unique users around the world visited the site during that month, with about 22.5 million of that number being based in Europe.
