The revamp of Bing’s user interface means the search engine is now a real competitor with the likes of Yahoo! and Google.
According to John Campbell, a blogger for Windows 7 News, Bing "lagged behind" its chief rivals until recently.
"Today, Bing stacks up with the other search engines, Google and Yahoo!," the commentator suggested.
He explained to users of SEO services that the site now comes with six default buttons, including news, sport and ‘hot deals’.
This is intended to give Bing users quicker access to articles and websites that they are interested in.
He explained that people on Windows Live are also able to read their emails after they sign in through Bing – a move intended to encourage more people to use the search engine.
Last month, a survey carried out by Bing revealed that 40 per cent of its users see search engines as their "most important" resource in getting details about a news story.
