The most successful strategies when promoting a product or service on the internet use a combination of SEO techniques and paid search adverts, according to Marketing Sherpa.
Research director at the website Sergio Balegno made his comments following a report by the company, which indicated that SEO services can deliver more leads of better quality than pay per click (PPC) promotions.
But he claimed that the "ultimate search strategies" will get the best of both worlds – the control of PPC and the efficiency of SEO.
Mr Balegno wrote: "While SEO generates the highest rates in both categories, it is paid search that enables marketers to control the timing and placement of search result listings."
The study also showed that Google produces the better quality and a higher quantity of leads compared to other search engines, in terms of paid search links.
Last week, Mr Balegno highlighted for the same news provider how long the process can be for a marketer between nurturing a lead and converting it into a sale.
