Bing Conducting Tests to Focus on Local Search Results
2012 looks set to be a big year for the search engine Bing. The year couldn’t have started better for them, with news that they managed to maintain second place in terms of total market share generated for search in both the UK and US during February [See: Search Engine Market Share Statistics – February 2012].
As they look towards building on this success, news has emerged they have started to test how their local search results are displayed online. As local search because a more prominent focus this year, this could be a shrewd move by Microsoft’s search engine.

Pay Per Click Campaign Checklist
In my mind there are key steps that everyone should be following when a Pay Per Click campaign is being created. Whether you are new to PPC or an experienced Search Specialist, we all need guidelines to ensure we keep on track.
We may all have different tools that we use when creating a PPC campaign, but the end goal is always the same…. To have a well structured campaign that achieves good results and a positive ROI.
I have put together this Pay Per Click Campaign Checklist to give pointers on the different steps I take when creating a campaign and have summarised each point in more detail below. If you would like to add anything, please feel free to leave your comments at the end of this post.
Bing adCenter Agency Management Support Now Live
Microsoft adCenter announce client-agency relationship platform, allowing users to create a direct relationship with their PPC agency.
This client-agency relationship option should make it easier for many advertisers to get their paid search ads live on Bing. As described on the Microsoft adCenter Help page, all that is required is for both parties to create an account. The client can then invite their agency using the account number and the email of the authorised account handler.
With Bing developing a greater share of the search market, Microsoft adCenter is a great alternative to Google AdWords. Whilst the principle is very similar, the audience and competition rate is significantly different. Just one reason why Bing PPC services are becoming increasingly popular with website owners.

Facebook drop Microsoft adCenter, Integrates Bing Search
The world’s biggest social media site, Facebook, are to dump Microsoft adCenter as they prepare to launch their own advertising platform. But with the original deal not running out until 2011, full worldwide Bing integration appears to have been the real deal sweetener.
Evidently the Facebook site is a lucrative place for any advertiser to show their products and is equally effective in delivering money to the host – Microsoft. However, in something of a surprise move, Facebook have ended their agreement with the technology giant to manage their advertising system in-house.
With a year left in the contract, clearly Microsoft will seek something in return and it appears as though it may come in the form of Bing being integrated into Facebook as the default search engine, worldwide. Obviously the exact nature of the agreement is still largely under wraps, but it appears that Bing could be set for a huge promotional push, starting off with 350 million+ Facebook users.

Microsoft adExcellence Accreditation Exam Qualification
This month, I sat and passed the Microsoft adExcellence exam and am very pleased to have this additional qualification to complement my Google AdWords Professional status.
The Microsoft adExcellence exam is designed especially for individuals (and UK companies in the near future) who have been managing, or are looking to manage, a Pay per Click marketing campaign on Bing (formally MSN Live). As a company, we believe it is important to pass these exams as a minimum standard and to act as a basis to develop our experience of this platform from.
Once you have passed the exam, you become a member of the Microsoft adExcellence official accreditation program and are issued with a member logo and are included within the adExcellence Membership Directory.
Microsoft also have another program which companies can become members of, but it is currently not available to the UK. Microsoft have informed us that the membership will be available to UK companies soon and when they do, Koozai as a company will be taking the steps to obtain the Corporate status.
If you would like Koozai to help create, manage and optimise your Bing campaigns, why not take advantage of our Bing Pay Per Click Management service.
Microsoft adCenter Introduces new Ad Preview Tool
Whenever you create a new PPC advertisement there’s a temptation to see how it appears on the search engines. This temptation can grow further if it fails to deliver the expected traffic rates or has an unusually high bounce, thus indicating a potential issue.
The only issue with looking for your advert through the search engine itself is that it can create unnecessary impressions and lower the Click through Rate (CTR), which may in turn adversely affect the campaign. So how can you preview your ads without upsetting the statistics and potentially costing yourself more money? Well, Microsoft Bing have come up with a simple solution.

Age and Gender PPC Targeting on Bing
One of the advantages of Pay Per Click advertising on Bing is the age and gender demographic targeting.
The Microsoft adCenter has collected data overtime from various sources to create this targeting feature estimating the visitor’s gender and age:
The results are obviously not 100% accurate but various studies in China show that the data collection and algorithms guessed the gender correct 80% of the time and the age of the visitor at least 60% of the time.
Pay Per Click on Bing: Campaign Setup
Now that you have created and activated your Microsoft adCenter Account, I thought I would follow on my previous blog post ‘Pay Per Click on Bing – Account Setup‘, with step-by-step guide on creating a new campaign.
Bing Pay Per Click: Account Setup
The Background
Bing is the newly refurbished Microsoft search engine, formerly known as MSN Live and MSN Search. Microsoft launched Bing on 1st June 2009, with a clean and uncluttered layout and a daily image that is rotated daily to provide searchers with a fresh and attractive search experience.
Pay Per Click Advertising
It’s not surprising that since the launch of Bing, more and more advertisers are looking to promote their business on this new and emerging branded search engine. Bing Pay Per Click advertising is run in much the same way as it was previously on MSN Live and Search, via the Microsoft adCenter programme.
The Microsoft adCenter platform has currently remained exactly the same; the only major difference in fact is the search engine that your ads will appear on. You will still see your ads appearing at the top or right hand side of the results page in the same format as before.
With the launch of Bing, many website owners have discovered that the description of their site is not all it should be.
Whilst, as most site owners understand, the description on Google is taken from the Meta Description tag, Bing has taken the decision to extract the information from their listing in the Open Directory (DMOZ).
